Hoodoo is a colection of superstitions, rather than a religion per se. Yes Hoodoo is real and there are praticioners all over the world. Yes, the effects in the movie can happen in real life, to a certian extent. Most aren't so spectacular as all that.

P.S Voodoo is different from hoodoo. Voodoo is a religion with gods and goddesses. It also has a necromantic bent, in that a large part of it is communing with spirits. Hoodoo is more like throwing salt over your shoulder for good luck, but on a larger, more effective scale.

Hoodoo is a variation of VouDoun (commonly called voo doo)
It is real and it is powerful!

It is a Pagan belief system and is praciticed by thousands of people all over the world however New Orleans is the "Home" of hoodoo.

As to answer the last part....thats like asking if the Magick in "The Craft" or "Practicial Magic" or "Charmed" is real.....it is a Hollywood version of the real Religion......

Yes Magick is real and Voudoun, Paganism and Hoodoo practitioner do use it but as they say ....dont believe everything you see on tv - having said thatI have seen some pretty amazing things .....

Yes 'voodoo' and 'hoodoo' are real. 'Hoodoo' is a kind of folk belief and practice using herbs, spells, etc. It is still practiced in New Orleans and no, it is nothing like what is portrayed in that movie 'Skeleton Key'. That whole movie was completely fantastic it was so unrealistic.

Hoodoo and Voodoo are derived from African folk magic, but are not the same thing:

hoodoo is another word for voodoo. It is the very same ritual.
Yes, there are people in Louisiana that practice Voodoo, but it is not as prevalent as it was during the reconstruction era after the civil war. Voodoo is mostly practiced today in many Caribbean islands and certain African countries.

No, the effects in the movie are not real. Voodoo practices are are mostly to affect crops and livestock, not humans (contrary to Hollywood). The voodoo practices shown in the movie were just for dramatic effect.
