Only buy pet foods that come in bags or sealed containers. The loose feed sold at farm stores or in pet store bins is usually dusty, moldy, and exposed to parasites and rodents. You can split up a big bag of food and put half in the fridge--it'll last a long time there.

As long as it is kept in a dry spot and non of the food gets wet it will be fine. Make sure it is in a seald container or twist tie bag. You want to make sure you hampsters food is changed daily in his/her dish.
