My best friend in the world, someone who is like a sister to me used to do allot of work overseas. Her work brought her to Afghanistan right in the middle of a war. February 10th, 2005 she was going back. Her flight brought her to New York where she would connect to Dubai and go to Kabul from there. She was to be waiting in New York for more than a few hours and she didn't want to be alone. She asked me if I would go to New York with her and see her off. I dropped everything to go with her. Our short but amazing trip in the big apple was the best time of my life. A few hours I will never forget. We both knew but didn't say that this could very well be the last time we were together so we made sure it was to be a great time just for the two of us. When the time came to go to the airport, we took a cab and sat very cose to each other. Very silent for the first time ever. I was allowed past the first security check but had to let her go past that. She got very silent and eventually started talking about what a good friend I've been and what she wants me to do with my life. It really hit home with me. She's 16 years older than me. She's my big sister and she knew she could die and was giving me her last advice. We hugged a few dozen times and when all of our time was gone, she left. I watched her leave and sat and cried for a long time. I was terrified but never showed it until she was gone. That was the hardest thing I've ever done. I watched someone I love more than anything board a plane going somewhere that could have killed her. I was so happy when I picked her and drover her home much later after.

Yes, I remember the last time I told my grandfather goodbye...he wanted me and my brother in the hospital room and we told him we loved him and that we would see him the next day...and when I left I said goodbye...turned out that was the last time I would see him or talk to him...

Yes, it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, and I don't think I will recover 100%, but on the flip side, I did say HELLO to someone new.

Yep. My father four years ago. The hospital called the family in to pay their last respects. Wow, was that rough.

Life is short and then you say goodby. Use the time given you to tell those you love that you do love them.
