Well, it gets on the internet...
OK, well, even the post office can overnight things. As to fast, I'm an older person; I once sent in a catalog order and the next day I got my order delivered by mail, from 2 states away (the 1960's). So, to me, mail (UPS, FedEx, Post Office, whatever) is slow.
But, basically, it is a case of mail (by whichever delivery system) using hubs; it goes from you to the nearest hub, to the appropriate next hub and so on. E.g., from Ft. Collins to Denver to Seattle then to Olympia.
And, of course, by air.
Which is what the post office used to do...

Overnighted mail is usually done by a company like FedEx. They ship it to your destination by plane, usually with quite a few other parcels to make it worth their while.

I work for UPS and we overnight things by air. Packages are taken to the main hub and then the air packages are taken to the airport and flown to their destination overnight, then delivered by truck.
