My friend just moved up to Minnesota! I'm considering buying her a space heater. Would this be inapropriate?

Yes, a space heater would be a good house warming gift because it will keep the house warm.
But, it's summer time now. How about an air conditioner!

I don't know if it's appropriate or not, but I was given a space heater for Christmas many years ago and have used it ever since. They work very well in small rooms and seem easy on energy bills. Your friend might not appreciate it at first, but she will in the long run.
As for them being supposedly dangerous, as I said I've used mine for a long time with no problem. Most are designed to automatically shut off if they are tilted even a little bit. You just have to keep them away from flammables, which is only common sense.

For Minnesota it would be appropriate but I'm not sure how safe it would be. We've had alot of fires casued by space heaters out here in California. It would probably happen even more in Minnesota. Check with the local Fire Department and see what they think.

Considering that it is Minnesota, maybe not inappropriate, but a down comforter might work better.

space heaters can be dangerous. I would buy something a little safer.
