No question--clearly, a Ford Mustang is the obvious answer! They're awesome, popular, terrific performance, the first "pony" car and muscle car. An eclipse is not reliable transportation and expensive. Plus, the eclipse is built by Mitsubishi, which recently was cut off from Daimler Chrysler, and is now having to stand on its own. Also, the eclipse is dangerous--it's not a car to keep you safe in case of an accident. A Ford Mustang, on the other hand, is less expensive and has really cool features that are standard equipment (not optional that you have to pay extra) whereas the Mitsubishi Eclipse hardly has anything that "comes with it" that you don't have to pay extra to have. So, why not support America with an all-time popular cool Mustang, the pony muscle car that has tons of awesome features that really does "come with it"! Also, the Mustang has great resale value, tons of safety features, comfortable seats, high performance with plenty of pick-up. It's a tremendous ride for the money!!

Well, if you insist on these two cars get the mustang but make it and older 1 with metal body insted of plastic and fiberglass. I had a 75 mustang and was in an accident where the fender was ripped off. This was only at 23 mph with the other guy running a stop sign. Would have been worse if a newer model.

No matter what kind of car you get kids are going to see what it can do, I have a 02' mustang gt, I would say the eclipse if you are looking for gas mileage. A V6 mustang would be ideal A mustang is bigger and probably safer, than the little import. But a mustang ain't a mustang without a V8. They are both just as safe as the other or just as dangerous as the other. I would let the kid decide and watch them closely.

The minivan. That will put him or her in there place! 16 year old cannot control a high powered car.Firstyear accident free and keep up there grade point average. Car should not make a 3.5 average kid drop to 2.0 and have to make up college at county community college. trust me 7,500 kids die each year just because they do not know how to drive and control 4,000 pounds of tires and car. "The Drivers Edge" car control and more advanced classes parents and kids should both take to learn even more accident avoidance and skill.

Neither. A 16 year old kid does not need either of those cars. A 16 year old kid needs an older, slower model to get some experience driving.

I would go with the Mustang if it comes with a free coffin, otherwise probably the Eclipse.

either one of those will be dangerous for a 16 year old to have ,both will run exceptionally well, fast enough to get you hurt, but the mustang would be a little safer than the eclipse would be,i have driven both cars, and id rather be in a wreck in a mustang than a eclipse any day, good luck, hope this helps.
