Or how about a radical Islamists trying to run for Governor against the likes of Mary Carey?...What we really need to do is figure out an alternative to our use of fosil fuels and turn off the oil spiggots...then they can fight each other all they want and nobody will really care.

In order to take over the world, they would have to have actual infrastructure. That can't happen, because they can't run countries that exist in modern eras.
They generally don't allow half of their population to work/learn, so productivity decreases, as well as innovation.
The major groups of radical Islam work only in the shadows, and know nothing about running a country on productive issues, only on fear.
If they finally did produce some radical Islam country (Caliph, or so I've heard), then it finally gives something solid the US can beat the crap out of. Multiple times.

If it were not for the President, they might have already been on our door steps, cutting heads off and yelling "convert to Islam or die" I am not worried right now, but we will be close in 09 if the wrong person is elected President, and wrong people left in office.
it's a war with radical adherents to their religion who believe that their God has ordered them to purge earth of all that is not a part of their ‘pure' faith.

I am not concerned about them succeeding because in the long run I do not believe that they will succeed but they will hurt a lot of people trying. That is what concerns me.

u.s. would desire to be guiding the way? Hell no! i think of... The worst is Radical Islam, in spite of the undeniable fact that, as someone residing in a Christian majority united states. I actually have a tendency to apply maximum of my efforts attacking Christianity. as a results of fact it is their bigotry that I would desire to attend to prevalent.

I believe this problem had been straightening itself out for the last fifty years, as the middle east developed a broader middle class and people were becoming modern and moderate.

Things have gotten bad in the last decades thought...I don't think that the progress been lost, but a lot of fringe players are madder than before.

I think there's no danger of islam taking over the world. The danger is islam-vs-christianity , in a frenzy, causing lasting harm to the world.
