Many of us know today Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. George Bush said so himself. Iraq, to those who still can think clearly, was obviously, at the very least (giving everyone involved the extreme benifit of the doubt) a misguided venture.
It would seem that America has become in every sense of the meaning, an imperialistic state. In the name of justice, to redeem our name, we call for te insanity to end. But are you willing to take the hit?
Are you willing to admit our system is less than perfect? Are you willing to admit to the injustices it creates? Are you willing to relinquish the ideal of being the prime nation and become a normal member of the international community again? In one word: Can we give up the addiction to being a power?
Conservaties, democrats, international responses. I don't care.
You want to call me a commie? Fine. That won't get us anywhere.
But perhaps you actually have something interesting to say. Where have we gone wrong and how can we fix it?

I knew back then that 911 has nothing to do with Iraq, so everything you said passed that was irreverent to me.

I must say that you pose an interesting question, or series of them. I would have to say that I think we have already or are, taking the hit. We are not well liked anymore by much of the world. Stuck our noses into others business too many times I guess. Because of others thoughts, I think we have already given away the ideal of being the prime nation, although I would rather be here than anywhere else in the world. As far as giving up the addiction of being a power, I don't think so. If we give up that status wouldn't that open us up to more terror attacks? Although it would cut down on other nations knocking on our door when they get in trouble and then complain when we try to help. I am about as hard nosed Republican as it gets, but I do see the flaws in government from both sides. Too much internal fighting going on to get anything done. That needs to stop before we can try to fix anything.

hmmmm...intresting.

Where we have gone wrong [[I believe]] is not the our system, not our leaders. Where we have gone wrong our the people.

Politicians are like business people. They always give what the people want, so the people will like them and vote for them so they get more power. So, to get a better system, we need better people.

I think we all need to be informed citizens who don't believe everything we hear. The war in Iraq isn't happening because Bush deceived us into going into war, it's that we let him deceive us into going into war. That's why we're in Iraq.

Laws and police are important in keeping everyone safe; but really people can keep people safe. For example; school shootings. Almost no school shootings would happen if the shooters weren't earlier on bullied and teased to the point where it drove them to do that. [[I'm not saying school shootings are right; just for the record.]]

Einstein once said, "No doubt that a small group of informed citizens can change the world. Indeed it's the only thing that ever has."

For years, our government has dabbled behind the scenes in the government of other countries. We have quietly propped up and supported puppet governments and worked behind the scenes..... Many of these governments and leaders were vicious killers and corrupt beyond reason. A few come immediatly to mind - Noriega, Pinoche, Batista, The Shah of Iran and others.

Bushie and the Boys have taken it to the extreme by illegally invading a sovereign nation and completely destroying it - in the name of "democracy"....

It will take generations to clean up his mess. What we need to do is mind our own business and take care of our own problems. We have so much in our country that needs attention. We don't have the luxury of tending to others....

It is hard to comprehend the mind of someone like our current President. What life experience does he have that causes such behavior, such arrogance. How can an American, elected to the highest office, completely ignore the will of the people..how can that person ignore the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Congress of the United States.

I really think there is something seriously wrong with him - inside his head.

What we need is a true American patriot back in office.....someone who loves his country and it's people. Someone who wants to return our country to it's status as the best country in the world....and it's people back to self respect.

It is not the American (USA) people who are at fault, It is our government!

The people of the USA tried to elect a just leader. Unfortunately, powers outside of our control had other ideas and brought in their choice.

Me thinks we are controlled by an unjust and immoral entity. One with more World control than any of us realize.

The Tri-Lateral Commission? Maybe! Or maybe a group with even more power.

I don't know but I am on Guard!

I can't comment on usa because I am from uk, what I can comment on is the dammage that follows 'those in charge' making choices on 'our' behalf. My brother decided to join the army & from the age of 17 saw nothing but destruction & death, he was in active service untill they medically discharged him after he was wounded during the Falklands Conflict & after 12 yrs in service, He has since suffered post traumatic war stress syndrome, needing frequent respite in a special hospital for ex service men. The thing that gets me is the big wigs that make the decission to send our/your soldiers anywhere stay safe at home on their fat a**es & just count the losses. I think too many of those in charge want more & more power & dont care what damage they cause to get it. they are going to be responsible for our demise but who put them there in the first place??

You mean a superpower. If the oil is running out the whole world needs to work together not against each other.

America is indeed approaching a spiritual death. Our dark cabal of Neocon leaders, several of whom have held positions of great power under Reagan, Bush I, and now Bush II, are perpetuating unrestrained expansion of the American Empire while utilizing Orwellian propaganda to convince its subjects that they are still living in the "land of the free". They have taken advantage of the inculcated apathy and ignorance of many Americans to begin the erosion of civil liberties through the Patriot Act, to increase regressive taxes while decreasing progressive taxes, and to launch an unabashed assault on the UN rather than working to help reform it in a way that would benefit the world, including America. They are bankrupting the federal government to the point that it will no longer be able to "afford" social welfare programs. They have launched the Bush Doctrine in Iraq. Thanks to the Neocons, many Americans are convinced that the Judicial Branch needs to be relegated to the status of "junior partner". Bush's proposed 2006 budget laid out aggressive cuts to social welfare programs and increases in defense spending. The administration steadily chips away at the wall of separation of church and state, which serves to protect both entities from undue influence over one another. Neocon policies are assaulting the rights of workers and consumers to enhance corporate profits. Exploiting the alleged necessity brought on by their "war on terror", this administration conducts many of its activities in secrecy. Under Bush, the environment is under siege. With the Neocons at the helm, those exhibiting xenophobia, hubris, proper support for the "American Way", anti-intellectualism, and over-consumption are considered to be patriots. As a nation, America is quite near spiritual bankruptcy. Like pigs rolling in the mud, the Neocons thrive in an American culture which promotes shallow thinking, immediate gratification, excessive spending based on easily obtained credit, bellicose attitudes, and a shameless narcissism devoid of empathy.

I and most democrats could give a plug nickel about being the most powerful nation - or have more influence than other countries, or have some weird idea that we have to maintain any such sham. So....sure we would take the hit, because it means absolutely nothing. Good question.
