"My girl" and I'll tell the short version of this story.
Years ago, when my grandmother had her stroke everyone had written her off for hopeless. I visited her every day and I knew from the look in her eyes that she wasn't "gone" like people said. I'd sit with her each day and we'd have a conversation through our eyes.
Well eventually she had her miraculous recovery atlhough there were parts of her speech missing. One of those was my name. She could name everyone else but she could never come up with my name. People thought that she simply didn't remember who I was but I knew differently. She used to get frustrated when they would ask her and one day finally just burst out "She's my girl!". Well that was it after that.
She lived another dozen years after that. When I would go visit her she would light up and say "oh it's you". And then she would take me around her center introducing me to everyone she met as "my girl".

Ayla from "The Clan of the Cave Bear" book by Jean Auel. I love her books about cave people. For some reason, I find cave people interesting and judging by the success of her books, many others do also. She said that she was watching a nature show on TV and some tribe people were repeating/chanting Ayla. She knew that this was the name she wanted to give her character.
