My friend hit my car the other day. I drive a 2006 Scion tC. We were parked side-by-side in a driveway, and he was partially boxed in. He tried to back out of a spot he was never going to get out of, and he ended up swiping my rear bumper and a tiny bit of my rear fender. He was being a huge idiot. Now, I've gotten a few estimates. I received one from a friend who works at a Toyota/Scion dealer, and he has hookups with the body repair guy, and he estimated $300 to pop out my bumper and fender, paint, and all that. The hang up is that the guy at the dealer can't do any work until July 21st, two weekends from now, and I want my car back ASAP. So I went to three other shops, and was quoted at $1300, $1500, and $1700. If I wait for the guy at the dealer, my friend will pay out of the pocket. If I go to any other body shop, we'll have to file an insurance claim. If I go to the dealer, the accident won't go on a Carfax report, but if I go anywhere else, it will. What's the best option?

You have the car, since you've taken it to four shops. Look around you. There are plenty of people driving around bruised cars, so unless your bumper is dragging or flopping around loose, you can drive it until the dealer is ready for you. There is actually another good reason to wait for the dealer... the dealer has a vested interest in having your car look good, so you can advertise the brand for him. And he isn't going to risk letting your car out the door with a crappy repair job, and having you tell all your friends that "Joe's Toyota and live bait" did this crappy repair.

let your friend pay for it. it doesn't sound like it is not drivable so just drive it the way it is for now and have him pay you the three hundred dollars it will be best for the friendship i wouldn't worry about the car fax report you won't want it on there anyway

get a bumper and fender out of a junk yard and talk to him and see if he will pay to have it painted and install the bumper, that way he will save money and the insurance wont have to know about it.

This is a no brainer, wait till your friend can repair it, better for you and your friend.
