Hindsight being 20/20, do you think the U.S. would have been better off if we had designated Mexico as our manufacturing base? At the very least, it's geographically desirable.

This would have been a good idea, but when the Klintonistas where in Washington they gave China anything they wanted in exchange for campaign contributions. There are many things that you see made in China that could be made in Mexico, but then those greedy corporate people would only get a 8 Million dollar bonus instead of 10 Million

There is no 'designated manufacturing base.' What there is, is a global market, and China - for a variety of reasons, some of them quite disturbing - is more competative in many segments of that market than is Mexico.

Of course, however it is best to keep jobs in America.

You should know that China pays communists to post pro-China propaganda on America websites like this one.

Facts:
1) China is America's number one threat.
2) China doesn't care about its economy when it comes to war. China's leaders have already said that going to war is more important than its economy.
3) China has helped Iran with most of its nuclear enrichment program.
4) China also helps Iran with its long rang missile program. That missile technology came from the U.S.. Because of Clinton, Iran now has long range missiles.
5) China is performing economic terrorism against the U.S.. It devalues its currency while pegging it to the U.S. dollar. That will eventually bankrupt America. And because Clinton pushed the world to let China join the WTO, it is nearly impossible to put trade sanctions on China for what it is doing.
6) China would not have the massive military it has today if Clinton was never president since China would not have the money to buy fancy weapons. Clinton was the one that pushed the world into letting China join the WTO. That has allowed China to spend more money on its military than the U.S. does ( when you take into account China forcing its currency to be devalued and China paying its soldiers nearly nothing )
7) China still honors the mass murderer that killed over 70 million people.
8) China stole advanced nuclear weapon secrets from the U.S.. And it has over 30,000 spies in America. Communist Chinese are caught every year in the U.S. trying to smuggle secrets to China.
9) Russia learned not to trust China over 30 years ago. It only has a business relationship with China. (China is famous for going around the world and making worthless agreements with countries. )
10) China wants Iran to continue developing nuclear weapons so the U.S. will attack Iran. Mass murderer's Mao's military doctrine for Asia was to get America involved in as many wars as possible to weaken the U.S.. That doctrine is still used in China, for the last 50 years. (China lost over 1 million people while fighting Americans during the Korean War. China aided Vietnamese rebels. China got Russia to send new fighter jets to Venezuela).
11) Bottomline: You can't trust China until Maoism is completely out of the country. When Mao's picture is finally out of the Imperial Palace then maybe China can be trusted. Right now, Mao continues to worshipped like a God.

Other facts:
1) China ignores nearly 1 billion poor Chinese in remote areas of China. Instead it spends countless billions rapidly building its military (for what?).
2) Less than 30% of the people in China are doing well.
3) Travellers to China never see the massive poverty because it is hidden in small villages scattered around the country. That was Mao's idea. 900 million people in China live in extreme poverty while the leaders of China live like kings.
