I need clarification...what is the 5/3 in parentheses?

5 radical 3 means 5 times the square root of three

The first link to geometry is with the Pythagorean Theorem (C^2 = A^2 + B^2).

I hope this helps.

I know exactly how you feel. When I started calculus years ago I totally forgot how to do radicals and was uncomfortable to say the least!

This is how I learned to remember radicals:

(square root of 9 equals 3)

\ /----- = 3
\/ 9

This is the same as:

(nine to the one half power equals 3)

(1/2)
9 = 3

or:

9^(1/2) = 3

or:

9^.5 = 3

I hope this helps you... here is a good website:

Good luck!
