I find that just getting in there naked is the best way but I've just recenlty become pregnant and don't really want to be in the confined space breathing those fumes. I also worry about my skin absorbing that nasty cleaning stuff. The bathtub is so much easier but the shower with those tall walls and tight space really poses a problem. One piece of info: I don't have a detachable shower head.

Get an extender rod with a pad on it. Mr. Clean makes one with disposable heads. That takes care of the general walls and floor....not as good as a good scrubbing but workable. Shower doors can be windexed until you are no longer pregnant without harm but later they should be cleaned with Bam or CLR and then windexed to get all soap scum off. Squeegee the shower door after each shower. The glass will stay cleaner longer.

I use comet spray on. It works like a miracle! I always use gloves to protect my hands from any cleaning chemicals. I like comet because the scum whips clean in seconds after you spray it on! No need to linger in there for a long time trying to get it clean. Also, go to the dollar store for new shower curtains. Since they only cost a dollar, why not replace it frequently?

Vinegar in a spray bottle is helpful. Set it to medium mist and spritz the shower real good while its dry (wet just dilutes the acid). Once every few days should be OK unless its real bad. Then you can wipe it down when you shower without exposure to toxins.

I clean with a 50/50 white distilled vinegar and water mixture. I spray it on and use a sponge or a scrub brush. I do not prefer to use harsh cleaning products.

I use a Mr. Clean magic eraser for cleaning that, and mostly anything else as well. They work wonders and don't give off any fumes! All you do is get it wet and wipe away. :)
