Measure your waist and inseam (crotch to ankle). If the first is 30" and the second is 31", then your (starting) size is 30-31. I say "starting" size because you will use that to try on a few pairs of pants labeled as such to see what actually fits. Beware. What fits with one manufacturer might not match with another. In fact, try on every pair of pants you buy. Actual sizes vary even with the same label and the same manufacturer.

I'm always frustrated because the perfect size for me is rare.
33 waist and 33 length.
So I usually let 'em droop with a 34 or suck it in with a 32 (with flood bonus).

The waist and your inseam. The inseam is the distance from your junk to your ankle. If you have a really cute sales girl she can measure for you.
