Is it illegal? Not in my area... Probably not in yours either...

Is it a fashion crime? Not on a sunny day... looks damn cool... just go to Key West. (You do, of course, have to look good without a shirt in the first place...) -- It does look a little silly if you wear the helmet but not the shirt.

Why would you do it? Well, for one, it feels awesome...

Is it dangerous? Probably... but then my state doesn't require me to wear a helmet either... and to be honest, if I come flying off a bike at 50mph, I'm not sure a t-shirt between me and the blacktop is going to make the difference that some of the other people are suggesting...

Different vehicles have different safety rules because there are different types of risks. Different states copy each other on rules. * Do passengers in rear seats have to wear seat belts? * Does motorcycle driver need a special driver test with stuff ordinary car drivers not need to know? * When should seat belts be worn on a school bus? * May a kid on a scate board go out onto the Interstate, with or without a safety helmet? * Must bicycle riders have headlight and tail lights when riding at nite? * Should a person on a horse on a highway have some kind of rear reflector light at night? * Does a person in a motorized wheel chair need a driver license and license plates to go on the street, other than crossing at a cross walk?

It is not truly illegal, but it is very unsafe. Even if a cyclist is wearing a helmet and he takes a spill, he can be very badly hurt and scratched up or cut up badly without a shirt or protective gear on.

It is not illegal. It is not a smart idea, but not against the law.

If you lay the bike down, you want something other than your skin in contact with the pavement!

You do not want to be road pizza!!

Be careful what you ask, the nanny state types do not need any more ideas!!

Not sure about other countries but in the UK it is NOT illegal.

The only mandatory protective clothing you need to wear whilst riding a bike is a helmet. You could ride completely naked as long as you wear your helmet, although you might get done for indecent exposure!

In my state, it is not illegal. But there are fine subtleties between the various state laws.

You can find the various state laws online.
I listed a couple for you in the source

Depends on the state. Not illegal in TX. Not smart, either.

Silly, Byron, you forgot to include to wear your flip-flops.

No it's not illegal, in fact it's a good idea. That way the paramedics don't have to dink around with digging out the fabric fused to your skin. Makes it much easier to dig out the bits of gravel with the tweezers!

No it's not illegal. Just make sure to wear the camo shorts and backwards baseball cap. Otherwise you would look silly.
