because i have been having this problem. i have a modenm connection. i just am not sure if this is normal.

This can happen. My one friend who lives in the middle of nowhere always loses her HDTV signal during really bad storms. This can also hold true for modems. All you need is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to have a hardware failure and then your connection is lost. I'd say this is most likely normal.

The reason is the electromagnetic energy that the storms great. It is not a good idea to have a computer on during an electrical storm. One power surge in your area and your computer can be fried.

The slowness could be caused by the electricity from the storm.

During an electrical storm, even if the computer is plugged to a surge protector, you should try using its battery and leaving your modem unplugged.
