Obviously, you need the proper shoes, then you push your feet up like you are pointing them, only your toes are on the floor. make sure to stand squarely over the box so that you do not roll an ankle.

Maxine gave you one of the best answers I've ever seen! Being a dancer for 14 years, en pointe for 4 years and a prepointe teacher for 2, I can say I totally agree with everything she said! Granted it sounds like she got most of it from the encyclopedia, we'll forgive her for that because she gave you sooooo much great and 100% true information. Hope her answer helps you in whatever you were looking for and my feedback will just make you trust her stuff even more :)

You need the proper shoes to support your weight and then practice on the bar.
