everyone pines for raising the minimum wage. why? you know what will happen, small business owners will just pass that cost to the consumer and as wages go up, so will prices.
it is simple, prices will always keep up with wages. wages will not keep up with prices. some will thing that to be unfair. but, if i have to give my employees a raise then why can't i give myself a raise?
my employee base is largely immigrant and largely hispanic. and best to my knowledge, none are illegal. i have to ask for 2 forms of government issued ID and that is usually a SSN and a drivers license. it is not my job to determine if those are forged or not. if i have to do background checks, that costs money and again, that gets passed to the consumer. you may tolerate a few cents raise in prices, but i doubt you will want to pay a dollar or more per item. so, why does anyone think minimum wage will solve anything?

Does everyone in your household have too work? Lots of households do.
Do your kids have after school activities that you pay for? A lot don't.
Do you pay someone to fix your car? A lot of people can't.
Could your family live on minimum wage? A lot of families have too.

Your argument is the same tired one I've heard for 40 years.
Boo Hoo

Edit:
If a business can't survive paying it's workers a living wage it should be subject to; "Survival Of The Fittest".
