The military was the 1st American institution to do away with segregation and accept blacks as equals in the early 50's. In the 80's Eddy Murphy was the only black actor to get staring roles and he had to do it by poking fun at being black.
I know Liberals will say that Truman forced the military to integrate, but it takes more than one President to change policies and traditions, as well as attidutes in the military. Liberals will also say Hollywood is run by Conservatives, but that is flawed too since most movies have Liberal themes, so who really decides what kinds of movies are made?

Sidney Poinier was popular back in the 50's and 60's when Hollywood was considered Conservative. Bill Cosby? All I can remember was Leonard part 6. If liked that movie you are disturbed.

Who was Commander-in-Chief when the military became integrated. I'll give you a hint. (HST). a Democrat. As Bush has proven the Commander guy can do as he pleases with the military and if President Truman wanted integration it would happen all he had to do is order it.
Who championed equal rights in housing and voting during the 1960s? A Democratic Congress and signed by Democratic Lyndon Johnson who pushed the legislation.

Okay, so your evidence consists of:
- the military was first (but Truman had a hand in it)
- Eddy Murphy, who you seem to think has something to do with civil rights and conservatism
- Hollywood, which you also seem to think has something to do with anything
Could you go over that again?
The reason the military was the first to integrate is because it was told to, and the military does what it's told to do. There was alot more reluctance, and resistance to, telling private institutions and citizens to integrate, so it took alot longer.
I don't know what you think a conservative or liberal actually is, but whatever you'd call a non-racist and supporter of civil rights, that's me. You would also call me a liberal. So explain that.

I think your premise is flawed. I can think of other prominent black actors working in the 80's and prior.
Sidney Poitier
Bill Cosby
To my knowledge, neither had to make fun of their own race to be accepted by hollywood.
UPDATE: Oh my god. You've never heard of The Cosby Show? One of the most popular TV shows of the 80s. Sidney Poitier continued to make movies in the 80's. Look up Little Nikita.

The first thing I want to say is that I agree with g on this one. The second thing I want to say is that kylekuypers is a little mixed up! First of all you can say either Liberal vs. Conservative, or you can say Republican vs. Democrat. But, it is inaccurate to say conservative vs. democrat. Also, back when the KKK was started, democrats were conservative, and Republicans were Liberal. This was also the case when the NAACP was started. *sm*

the military is a government institution... it's not conservative or liberal, as far as policy... they do what congress and the president tells them too... and congress and the president were democrat at the time, if I remember correctly...
and Bill Cosby was HUGE in the 80s... and there were others...
and you're only listing one example for each... pretty sad argument...

Hollywood is run by money. If you can make money snorthing ketchup, someone in hollywood wants to interview you.
And you must forgive me for sounding prejudice, but in what way do you understand racism? How have you been persecuted as an effect of your race in your life?
If you cant answer that question, then your question makes very little sense.

Because liberals now discriminate against whites, males, hetereosexuals, and Christians.
Conservatives no longer discriminate against anyone.
Funny how the liberal judges on the Supreme Court ALL voted to CONTINUE TO ALLOW RACE AS A FACTOR IN ADMISSIONS DECISIONS.....and the Conservative judges opposed it.
