I have always been close to my parents and they like my husband. I'm pregnant, and it's a little boy; I want to name him Saddam Hussein Davidson (with Davidson being the surname). My husband says it's not his favorite name but he'll go along with it to make me happy, but my parents said if I name my child Saddam Hussein they will disown me...but despite the former Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein is the only thing I want to name my child. What should I do?

This is not about you - it is about your child. A good parent puts the welfare of their child above their own.

A child with that name will get bullied, teased, and ostracized by his peers, just as he would if you named him "Josef Mengele", or "Jeffrey Dahlmer." Is that really what you want for your child?

Get over your need to impose your will on your unborn child, and choose instead a name that reflects the kind of life you want him to have, the gifts you want him to exhibit, and/or the love that you feel for him. Believe me, by the time he gets into grade school, he'll change it anyway.

I was thinking it was something like Skye Blue or Winter Frost.

I hope this is a joke, how in the world could anyone name an Innocent baby a name that has such a horrible reputation?
BTW I was reading that in Germany ( I think) you can not name your child Adolf Hitler or Osama Bin Ladin Not sure if Saddam Hussein made the list

You need to name your child something he or she can live with when they grow up. Why is that name so profound to you? Your child will be tormented during his school years. Is there some religious reason you want that name. If you split Saddam's first name its SAD DAM. Do you want your child to be ridiculed when he attends school. He will forever have to answer who named you that and why? I feel if you name your child that he will forever be questioned by most ppl he comes in contact with. Good Luck with a name for your child that will end up being his legacy

I think you should change your name to, like "Madame Sadamma Husseina" and your hubby should change name to Saddam Hussein Pap.

Now Shaddam up!

You should really think long and hard about it. A name is something that we carry for life, and it also usually has a history behind it.
Have you wondered how this will effect him later in life as he goes thru school and college and try to secure a place in the work force?

I'm sure your parents won't disown you.....but think of their feelings too.

i don't there is something my son ought to do for me to disown him. some mum and dad have themes that carry over from notwithstanding style of lives they have lived. For them to disown a infant could be something in them, themes they decide for help with. Your judgements, appropriate or incorrect on the time, are what helps you advance up and mature, to become a greater perfect person. you in basic terms might desire to income from them incorrect ones and don't proceed to do them repeatedly. Your mom will come around, she could be greater upset than the rest, yet women tend to blow up off thoughts first then understand they might have over reacted, supply it it slow and enable her quiet down. Then attempt speaking. sturdy success, i'm advantageous notwithstanding you probably did is something that the two one in all you are able to recover from and circulate on along with your lives

You really can't do that. Kids will make fun of your child, and people will think odd things of you, maybe make his middle name Saddam, then it won't be as politically awkward.
