There are tons of recipes floating around out there, but to be honest I wouldn't bother with any of them. It's practically impossible for us as hobbyists to get our hands on the materials to make foods better than what you can buy in flake or pellet form. You would be far better off ( and your fish too) if you spent the same time and money raising some live foods for your fish. If you are interested in live foods, feel free to drop me an email with what kind of fish you have and I'll be happy to recommend a few options and a few money saving tips.

You should give a fish a varied diet as they are mainly omnivorous. Goldfish eat insect larvae and vegetation from plants, in the wild so I don't think you can do better than frozen or live dahnia, and brine shrimps and vegetation like lettuce, and the occasional pea or two. (Frozen ones squeezed out of the tougher outer skin.) My friend never uses flake or pellets and her fish are large healthy pond fish! I feed my tropicals in the same way but with flake, catfish pellets and occasionally chopped up prawns or a little bit of fish if I'm cooking one. I have several tanks though and different species to cater for including frogs! The flake is used for the shrimps and fry than the adults! The human foods cost nothing extra, I throw away far more than they could eat. They never know what they will get! We don't eat the same thing everyday so why should our pets?

For what type of fish? Every fish has its own requirements as far as protein, vegetation, etc. Some fish are strictly carnivorous, others omnivores or herbivores. I have a GREAT cichlid food recipe...but would need to know what type of fish you're trying to feed.

Yeah get a cheese grater and grate the soles of your feet into the fish tank, it is really healthy for the fish..or so I hear.
