Put vinegar in a spray bottle, cover your face with a bandana and go kick some mildew, nastiness butt! I know, vinegar doesn't smell very good either, but it will kill the gross crap that's down there. Your house will smell like pickles... which is better than smelling like a garbage can with rotten meat baking in the hot sun.... I'd take the pickles. You're not going to ever get rid of the smell until you kill what is causing the smell in the first place. Of course, if I were you, I would have panicked and grabbed a bottle of bleach, lifted the lid to the freezer, dumped in the bottle, closed the lid and ran like the hounds of hell were chasing me. Then I would have bought the grocery store out of baking soda and dump the boxes all over everywhere. Baking soda is great for getting rid of nasty smells. Then I would have dumped a bunch of eucalyptus oil (which repels bugs). My way is very messy, but I wouldn't care. I would rather clean it up and know I am not going to become infected with boccelism. I would be too busy freaking out because I am the type of person who can't leave a dish in the sink for more time than it takes for me to start to walk away from it... then I turn around and take care of it.

The best way is take it outside..and do the cleaning there..You can literaly put straight bleach..not reduced into a spray bottle..open it up spray it all over..let it set 10 minutes..take the water hose with a pressure nozzle on it..spray it out...then take some bleach reduced 4 parts water to 1 part bleach....respray...then put rubber gloves on, and scrub with scrub bad..any that didnt come off..sit in the garage or inside somewhere and let dry 2 days..it is good to go...If bleach irritates you use what is called a tsp substitute sold in all diy or wal mart stores...

Specifically, use a 50/50 mix of bleach and water... if you put it in a spray bottle it is easy to apply. Wear gloves and work in a well ventilated area.

If the bleach itself is something you cannot work with (my wife is allergic, for example) then try a milder product, like a kitchen/batch cleanser.

Rinse the surface with just clean water afterwards to help remove any bleach residue.

Good Luck
