Probably because he co-authored a bill with the drunken murderer Ted Kennedy.

McCain's popularity is ebbing because people are getting to know him. We'll see more of this. People often like the looks of a candidate, they hear a few good things about him, and they're interested. But further scrutiny usually dampens their ardor. McCain's a fairly independent Republican, he's a straight-talker, a veteran and intelligent. Pretty attractive when you consider the rest of the Republican field. But most of the American public now feels we made a mistake getting involved in Iraq, and they won't support anyone who wants more of the same.

McCain [ before I go on, let me say this...I am a democrat who has a lot of respect for him so I am not bashing him] is taking a political hit for his views on Iraq. The scandal of AbuGrahib might come back and hurt him more has the campaign goes on. Hard to say at this point. Personally, if I had to cast a vote for a Republican candidate, I would go with him. He has a better grasp of foreign policy, strong background in terms of leadership in Senate and by being a veteran of war himself, he understands the complex nature of war and the importance of sound policy and rules of engagement when it comes to the military.

McCain is going down because of his stand with bush on the Iraq war and trying to push illegal amnesty through with Kennedy.

That may be one reason but his support for Georgie's war hasn't helped him any either. He put his foot in his mouth a few months back too. All of it adds up to bye bye'sville for a candidate. That was Howard Dean's problem and, to some degree John Kerry's too.

NO, McCain po'd conservatives with mccain/feingold. His little spoof of the Beach Boys-bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran...really po'd the left, plus him and bush supporting each other never helped. He is finished. Gone. Fin.

I'd like to think that the recent hit to his popularity was at least in part due to his co-sponoring of the Amnesty Bill.
