Large fish eat lobster, Lobster eat medium sized fish, medium sized fish eat shrimp and shrimp eat fish fry. I've had shrimp with small fish in heavily planted tanks and it works great.
Go to the library or search for the aquatic gardeners association on line or other plant type forums. Karen Randall used to have some great stuff. Set up a beautiful plant tank, fill it with shrimp and small fish and you will have a tank everyone loves and can watch for hours. I have over 2,000 gallons of aquariums and love a wide variety of displays though the most beautiful and the one's everyone always goes back to are the heavily planted tanks.
The problem with lobster is when they are small the fish eat them. When they are large they eat the fish and the reverse is true if you have fish that get large. There is a brief time when they can live together though you already know the outcome is carnage so don't bother. Most lobster (crayfish) are easy to breed and facinating if you give them a tank to themselves. You can put some fish in knowing these are food. They will eat eachother as well so supply a lot of rocks and caves of varying sizes.

Shrimp will be the first to go. You need a tank that does not have any small fish in it or the lobster will definitely eat them. My father in law has a tank with a couple of blue lobsters in it (a 55 gallon) with an African knife fish, a couple of blue gouramis, an elephant fish and a bright yellow and black striped lep. The feeder fish don't stand a chance!

Lobster will eat smaller fish if they can catch them. You may be able to keep them with larger cichlids in a large enough tank, but don't expect them to get along well.
What size tank are you expecting to set up? That will play the largest part in deciding what you should put into it. Cichlids can be very colourful, and if you stick to the smaller African varieties you can manage a decent sized tank with larger shrimp such as bamboo shrimp as long as there are plenty of plants and hiding places for them to all feel comfortable.
If you choose to do a larger tank and aren't afraid of maintenance, a saltwater reef can be extremely rewarding. You can get all kinds of coral and anenome colours, and banded shrimp which look like candycanes. Starfish come in many colours too, and goby and wrass fish are bright and colourful. There's a lot you can do with saltwater, so it's definitely the more flexible option if you want a lot of colour. But it is more work!

the lobster eats fish for dinner so you would not be able to have them in the same tank. however if you wanted something that would not look boring try a saltwater tank with neons, angels, clownfish ect. everyone loves saltwater tanks with live coral as it is very colourful. good luck

Yes the lobster will eat everything as soon as he is big enough! Have you thought about crabs or frogs - to replace the lobster! They will live quite happily with coloured guppies and shrimps.

I'm pretty sure that a lobster will eat the fish, they do grow quite large. I have two Mountain Shrimps in with my Neon Tetras. I actually only have Neon Tetras in one and as a shoal they look pretty spectacular all together. You certainly can't get a NATURALLY brighter fish!!!

The lobster will catch and eat smaller fish while they rest at night. There are plenty of exciting fish out there, and you and your friends can enjoy watching them for hours
