How long will our buildings and monuments last? Will other life forms take our place? Will it be a better or worse world once mankind is gone? I'm just wondering what your opinion is on this matter. :)

Better and worse are human judgments. With no humans, there can be no human judgments.

If all humans suddenly disappeared, our structures would last hundreds if not thousands of years. However, our metal structures would not generally last as long as the stone structures built thousands of years ago. Our concrete structures would fare somewhat better.

As for something "taking our place", what is our place? If our place is "the most intelligent species on Earth", then clearly we would be immediately replaced by the second most intelligent species (perhaps dolphins or chimpanzees?).

Obviously the world would be a way better place! Humans (as a whole) are evil and don't care about anything but themselves.
For example, you don't have to do much research to see the suffering and torture humans cause to animals.
By the way, Real Men Don't Hurt Animals.

Don't worry, another animal will take our place. I'm assuming it will be another primate.

if an insect were to rise to the top of the evolutionary chain...i'd be scared (but then again, i wouldn't be around to be scared); insect colonies are extremely aggressive and war-like...

will it be better or worse...well i'm going to say, initially it's going to get very bad before it starts to get any "better"--think of all the nuclear weapons and radioactive waste that would eventually be unleashed to the world should we not be around to continue monitoring those security systems. :::shudders:::

I don't agree with most of the answers here so far. It will not be better necessarily, nor worst. I think it will be boring. Human kind have done wonderful things through history. Bad things? Yes, but GREAT things too.

Earth will become a better place and given enough time it may heal itself and erase the destructive evidence of man's presence.
