LOL...No!!! its not "okay to burn your boyfriend"...sorry :-) I couldn't resist.
Copper is quite valuable, but burning off the plastic gives off alot of toxic poisons which are really dangerous if inhaled. Not worth the risk I'd say.

Copper is paying pretty good right now and certainly worth doing properly.
Copper can be harmful to the human body as well as the wire insulation IS downright toxic.
Many recyclers offer a stripping service for a minimal fee and most will not pay the same for burned wire as they will for clean properly stripped copper wire. I have a friend who lives in the country and he burns his wire but it is nasty in a dozen different ways. You cant get that smell out of your car, clothes or house. Find a better way to strip it if you can. I attached a couple of nails to a board and drove a knife blade in to the board and when I pulled the wire through it did a pretty good job. Nothing is perfect but emphysema is not a good option at all.

A lot of insulation, at least the old stuff, contains lead so you wouldn't want to be burning that.
The scrap buyers can probably process the insulation more efficiently than you can, and any difference in price probably isn't worth your time. Use that time to do something that will net you more per hour.

Let me see if I got this right, you are complaining about having to work to make free money (copper) more valuable? Copper power wire (not LV wire) unstripped is usually worth 75% of clean copper or approximately $1.20 per pound unstripped. If you want more, work for it and strip the wire.

Burning the insulation off the wire is polluting. You would be polluting the air for your own financial gain. Just take it back, you will still get money for it. Take care of the air, don't pollute.

the copper is still worth just as much as if it had the wires stipped off. there really isn't many ways around spending time on prepping metal to recycle.

You might get a lot of turn downs trying to sell this, due to stealing. You might have a lot of questions asked of you. Better have proof of where you got the wire and who it belonged to. Permission is what I'm saying.

It's worth more stripped than unstripped and burning is the easy way to do it. I would not want to live in your neighborhood.
