We can only hope it DOES become secure.

The MYTH is that we "can't" do it.

It CAN be done.

Look at the old Soviet Union. You couldn't just run across their border, or you may have got shot!

Why?

Because they don't know who you are, or your intention in their country.

Why should we allow anyone to just come here, without checking in first?

if you are speaking of the Mex/Am Border. No way, at least in my liftime....I would have to haul my self into that battle. At 56 years of age I can tell you for sure that one of my grandparents was born here. Infinite Diversity in Infinite combination. (IDIC) is a philsophy that will eventually have to take over if we as a plantary society ever get over petty diffs.
It's all about location, location, location! Somebody always seems to want what someone else has. Or we should all believe in the same thing. When we finally realize that it doesn't matter and land is just land. When ya "meet your maker"it's really not going to matter. Personally, I like to learn about all the different heritages. If we could bring our ancestors here, they would be so shocked at how far we as humans have grown! I was raised in the fifties, during the cold war, I watched to Berlin wall go up and I watched it be torn down.. I lived in fear of polio, yet became one of the first to receive the vaccine, in a lummp of sugar. This Digression into Bushmania and The (Timeline)"Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" has just about hung itself. Then folks like us can get back to getting to know each other!

You can build all the walls and fences you want, but you won't keep people out. Walls and fences can be blown up, scaled, or tunneled under. A better solution to the illegal immigrant problem would be to build small government facilities along the border where people could actually register to become U.S. citizens as they cross the border (a la Ellis Island). People could register, get information as to citizenship, obtain details about job opportunities, and could be given appropriate temporary IDs until they completed citizenship requirements, after which they would be bonafide U.S. citizens eligible to vote, work and pay taxes. -RKO- 07/10/07

I am absolutely positive. Bush has always pushed for open borders. We buy most of our products from Communist China, they have already started building the North American Highway,Bush even tried to sell our ports to Saudis for heavens sake. I wish to God people would wake up before it is to late.

It's already closing. The fence is under construction now, they are completing it in 50 mile sections.

I'm sure.

Mexico, for good example, supplies most of our trade route. Canada is high in the business tech, Britain is one of our closest allies, and the last time we tried to close our borders, it didn't work. We ended up falling behind the world market. You can even check the stock market charts for proof.

I assume you mean 'closed.' And, yes, I don't ever expect America to have tightly-sealed, guard-towers-and-razor-wire type borders to the north or south.

I'm pretty sure.

It's just not practical, short of the US becoming much more isolationist than it currently is.

Forget about the politics, just the shear logistics of trying to seal over 15 thousand miles of land and water to prevent any unsupervised entry -- it just cannot be done.
