I heard a story this morning that said McCain's campaign is dying because of he supports victory in Iraq. WTF is up with that? If that were to be true then why is Guilliani a front runner and he supports the war too. What do you all think did McCain in?

BINGO! I agree with you all that say it was immigration that did him in.

Guilliani has absolutely no reservations about his stand with the president in Iraq and he's a front runner. I really don't believe it has anything to do with Iraq.

McCain is losing his ground because he is McCain. He hardly ever votes and was one of the ones pushing hard for amnesty for illegals.

McCain may be in trouble, but he's not dead. Remember in 1992 that Bill Clinton's campaign was considered dead at several points. In 2004, John Kerry was in trouble several times as well. At this point during the primary process, Howard Dean was winning and the Democrats were intrigued by General Wesley Clark's interest in running for President. Poll numbers don't matter now, but they will matter in January and February 2008 when votes are cast. So let's save the obituary for now.

Confidentially, what's hurting McCain is that he is seen as too closely supporting President Bush (pro-surge and pro-immigration bill). His support has come from the fact he was seen as a maverick, and many of his supporters see his recent stands as being hypocritical.

As for Guilliani, he is a front-runner largely due to his prescence during 9-11 and due to his successes as the mayor of New York City.

The others support the plan but all have reservations. McCain pretty much is wedded at the hip to the President's plan. As it goes, so does he. His support of the immigration plan didn't hlp.

He was never liked by many of the conservatives in his party, and he lost what little goodwill the moderates and many independants had for him by cozying up to Bush. Romney could be President before McCain. Plus, he's old.

Have you noticed how the Republicans have been moving away from supporting Bush? Well. McCain is still defending his failed policy. The elected ones are more concerned with saving their jobs in the next election than anything else. To support Bush will be a big problem then because the people have spoken! McCain has waited too long to save himself.

IMMIGRATION -- This is a once great man who has been bought by big business (this is my opinion as I cannot fathom why else you would attempt to give our country away).
The war in Iraq regrettably must be fought and it MUST be won, a loss here has considerably worse ramifications than Vietnam. The VC were fighting for their home, the savage enemy we are up against now are fighting for the destruction of civilization.
Also does he remind anyone else of Dr. Hibbert on the Simpsons?? He chuckles at the strangest times.

If voting was effective it would be illegal

well... McCain also supported the immigration bill..

AND McCain has been VERY vocal about following the president's plan in Iraq... while others have not been nearly as vocal and questioned the president's plan (although they want to stay in Iraq)...

they seem to be his main two issues... while other candidates are focusing on other issues mainly...

His age (he's 70, & alot of people secretly think he's too old); his support of Bush (a mistake), his support of the War (a BIGGER mistake), his support for sending MORE troops into Iraq (a HUGE mistake), and his support for the past two Immigration Bills (a WHOPPER of a mistake). In short- there'll be snow back where he lives (in Phoenix, AZ) in July- before he wins the Republican Nomination for President.

1-immigration
2-no charisma/no excitement
3-too associated with liberal-democrats
4-too associated with Bush's failed policies in Iraq (which Guiliani doesn't have to answer for since he hasn't been in elected office for the past 4 years)
5-immigration deserves double mentioning
