If your period normally doesn't last as long, then you should consult your doctor. There are a lot of things that could be causing the length of your period to be a bit longer than usual and a doctor is the best one to tell you exactly what is happening.
However, if your period is normally longer than the usual, it may not be a problem. I personally have the flow for about 10 days per month, and though it is a constant annoyance, it's actually perfectly normal.

A little bit longer than a week is probably normal...everyone's cycle is a bit different. However, the birth control pill can probably regulate your cycle so it doesn't last quite so long.

I would call if you've been on it for two weeks. Periods can last from 3-10 days.
