The clue was Rich Little e.g. and the answer was "aper" I confirmed it in the back of the book. I can't find this word in my college dictionary. What the hell is an aper? Someone who acts like an ape?

Yes, someone who acts like an ape, but specifically by imitating what another person does. Rich Little is an imitator (although it's a bit odd to call him an aper because he imitates voices--impressionist is the usual word (but aper is nice for crosswords)).

To ape someone is to mimic them. I don't know if "aper" is proper English or not.

It is a "crossword puzze word", i.e. a word that while it may be legitimately formed using recognised word-building techniques (e.g.adding "er" to a word to form a word meaning "one who"), you will probably never encounter it outside the context of a crossword puzzle. In this case, "aper" means "one who apes", i.e. "mimics", or, more accurately in this instance, "impersonates".

Yep. An aper is one who apes (mimic or imitate).

Someone who mimics or copies, like an ape. This is a common crossword term.
