That is a black skirt or merry widow tetra that has been injected with blue dye. It normally looks like the one on this page:

it also comes in a white variety that is most often the dyed fish. Once the dye fades out is should look similar to this fish:

Here's more about dyed fish:

Hope that helps.

Looks like a blueberry tetra. Which means it has had dye injected into it. Looke like a merry widow. I purchased two of these when I had no clue about them. Big mistake. Within a week all of my fish had ick. Now I know better so I do better. They are beautiful fish but they lose their dye quickly. I will never again buy a dyed or painted fish. It is cruel.

The stores call them Froot Loop Tetras. They're actually white skirt tetras that have been dyed. They will not live as long as a natural tetra.

The dying process is pretty horrific on a fish. They take the palest of the fish (albinos..or white/pink fish) and strip them of their protective slime coats when very young. They are then dipped in dye and put in vats with slime coat growth chemicals. In some cases, fish are actually injected with dye (in the case of painted glass fish or "lipstick" parrots, etc)

About 80% of the fish treated this way die before they reach the stores accounting for their much higher price than their undyed brothers. By stripping them of their slime or injecting them, they are put under undue stress and robbed of their natural abilities to fight off disease. They will surely not grow as large as they should nor live as long as they could even with the best of care.

The only fish I see is a painted white skirt tetra. The blue color is artificial and will fade away to all white in a couple of weeks.

What you have is a Black Skirt or Black Widow Tetra. Yours looks to have some blue coloration so it could be the died "blueberry" variety. It looks lonely, probably needs some friends.

To me it kind of looks like a neon tetra. But I could be wrong.
