Biggest Terrorist of all time? "Sir" Francis Drake or Bin Laden?

Will the Queen knight Bin Laden if given the chance? The terrorist pirate Francis Drake is the all time worst mass murdering terrorist...yet the English bestowed knighthood and respect upon him. What kind of message does that send?

Piracy of yore is perhaps the nearest ancient equivalent to today's terrorists, since many pirates acted without national authority and some formed bands of marauders who acted, and considered themselves, outside state control, and as princes in their own right.

Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh and others, however, held letters of marque from Queen Elizabeth. This would be the equivalent of an islamic government officially recognizing Osama Bin Laden as acting as their agent, which would be a most interesting development on the international scene. Modern terrorists and their sponsoring governments prefer to obfuscate the financial arrangements.

The modern equivalent of Sir Francis' knighthood would have to come, not from her Britannic Majesty but from King Abdulla, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Hitler is the biggest terrorist of all time. Second might be Bin laden, 3rd would be George W. Bush. With bush we sort of reversed the process you mention with drake. We bestowed commander and chief upon him, and he screwed the United states citizens in every way he could think of, while making many of them believe he was doing it for their benefit. Some of the most intelligent men on earth, have became mass murderers and killers. But, only now have semi intelligent people thought that was okay. Bush is one of those intelligent people, you'd have to be in order to cause the devastation he has, and still manage to convince people its good.

George H. W. Bush
CIA operative involved in covert operations since the late 1950s. He was in Dallas-Sheraton on 11-22-1963 according to an FBI report. He is the father of the notorious Bush Crime Family that has committed mass murder, attempted assassinations, kidnapping, voter fraud in the 2000 presidential election, committed human rights violations and other war crimes.

They even named the CIA headquarters "The George Bush Intelligence Center" as well as a naval vessel (air craft carrier?).

His is the proud father of the worst president in history and doesn't care that he took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution numerous times and is continuing to fail to keep that oath.

Drake was acting under Crown orders (or at least, support) for most of his attacks, which were against nations hostile to his Crown. So, he might have been ruthless, but he didn't regularly attack civilians, and he was acting under orders.

Bin Laden, in attacking civilians and without their being an ongoing conflict between nations, falls in a different category.
