I bought 2 african clawed frogs, they live in my 55 gallon tank the problem is one has grown enormously and the other is still the same size as when i bought it, why did one grow and the other didnt, i have had them for about 8 months

I looked at both of their arms and legs and only the legs are webbed on both frogs, one is 3 times the size of the other, the largest one is about 2 1/2 inches the small one is about 3/4 inch in size.

Maybe one doesn't get enough food
OR
This is what I think. one is an African Clawed Frog (Legs are webbed ONLY) and the other is an African Dwarf Frog (BOTH legs and arms are webbed).
ADF don't get any larger then 2 inches but ACF get up to 8 inches or more.
How big are they????

Sorry to dissapoint you EJ, the frogs don't have dwarfism, it's just a name... Now, your question. The large one may get more food than the other, or the little one is just abnormally small. Try separating the two and feeding as much as you normally would. Good luck!

Apart from one being more aggressive at getting food than the other (which is a good possiblity), you may have a male and female - the female will be the larger of the two: http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/species/clawed.html

The answer resides in the genes of the parents of the frogs. The large frog has inherited phenotype allele, which is apparently homozygous for size. The small frog has inherited and homozygous allele for dwarfism. Since the alleles for size are sex linked, the fact that they are albino, makes for an especially interesting problem.
