assuming you run normal tyres, would rim size really matter as when you increase rim diameter you get lower profile tyres so the wheel still becomes the same overall size? as in would 15 inch with fat tyres make much of a difference over18 with low profiles? because someone said to me 15" for go 18" for show, but if the overall wheel size is kept the same through adjusting tyre diameter i cant see how this would be true.

the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre doesn't change (or very marginally).

if you run lower profile tyres then there is less instability from the tyre walls so the car rides firmer, lower profiles are better for track racing because they improve cornering stability. Wot you need for drag racing is a better aspect ratio the width of the tyre verses the tyre wall hieght. The wider the tyre the more grip and potentially more speed.

If you have a real fast car and are running soft tires like slicks or bias ply, having more sidewall allows for traction. Look at dragsters and how big the tires are and how the sidewall wrinkle on launch. For a street car with radials it won't make a difference as long as the tire radius is the same.

If you don't change the diameter then it is like a pound of steel or a pound of feathers. They both weigh the same. So if doesn't matter.

The tire compound will make a difference. the softer the rubber, then the more traction.

Good luck, hot rod.
