A ghost shrimp carry eggs ae a live fry. I didn't believe they did that kind of thing. The fry was a pretty good size; (about 4 to 5 wks) the older guppies didn't even bother her. Is this a common thing; or did my ghost shrimp just eat and kill it because it happened to catch? Please let me know i have even smaller fry in the tank. ty

I had one ghost shrimp devastate a brood of Betta fry. He caught and killed several hundred over night! I wanted to use him (just 1) to natural cull the babies...I never thought he'd catch all but 5! Needless to say, my spawning tanks are GS free!

To answer your question, I think the GS actively hunted the fry down...if you are selectively breeding Guppy, then I'd remove the GS...if you have them just because they are pretty, then the choice is yours..if you leave her in, you will have very few fry make it big enough to not get eaten...they are great control for livebearers.

Ghost shrimp can be mean but sometimes people don't understand that some animals will eat weak, dead, or dying animals its just what they do. Ghost shrimp are great pets. I had one that was about 2 inches in length and was a hoss. He ate other ghost shrimp which explained why they always disappeared.

Ghost Shrimp often catch any fry small enough to eat, why wouldn'y they? It is an easy meal. This is nothing new. If you want any live fry, you will need to remove the Shrimp.

If a fish looks like it's not a strong fish, the other bigger fish will take it out
