I think that the fact that Bush commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby- a convicted felon- shows that he has lost whatever regard he ever had for public opinion. I think maybe Bush knows that his "legacy" is now going to be one of the biggest jokes in the history of the US, and that he is going to be put on the same list as Nixon, Harding, and Pierce- so maybe he just figures he should just do what he really wants to do, since he can hardly make the situation worse.

dca,

Toss out the President's wishes - he has absolutely no power - NONE - to make the financial decisions necessary to tackle the list that you present. It is a good list and I thank you for taking the time to send it to us.

That said, I believe that Congress, for the past 15 years or so has just tacked on spending and more spending, 'ad nauseam'. They have very few options left at this point - entitlements eat up a vast portion of the budget. And, with the population-thick Baby Boomers moving into position to pick up some entitlement funds, things can only get worse. We as a country have know this for a long, long time. Yet, Congress, Democrats and Republicans, have done nothing substantial to stem the spending tide. Leadership is what we need and I don't see anyone prepared to furnish it.

The Bush government is the most secretive in the history of America. No matter how fair a proposal is introduced and congress takes it to Bush he will reject it.The Bush rule is close to dictatorship with a few people in the circle. The people mean nothing to him for they have given him four years to do what he wants.

I think that public opinion ceases to matter at the exact moment any politician wins an election. Bush and the congress are not unique.

Calm down, you're going to have a heart attack and everything is going to be the same. They ALL care only about themselves and how their party is going to win the next elections. And, no matter how wins and what goes wrong, they will blame each other..........
