That's pretty big for a 3-month-old, but it might be fine. I'd ask your doctor. Most babies double their birth weight by about 4 months and triple it by 1 year, so he's far above the norm though.

My son was 18lb8oz at 4 months, and that was pretty huge (95th percentile). But he was on the tall side so it was okay.

On the other hand, my 2-year-old didn't even weigh 20 pounds at age 1. Kids really vary a lot.

I would talk to your doctor to make sure everything is okay, but there is a good chance he's fine.

Did you take him to his 3 month well baby visit? You may want to limit his formula intake if he is constantly eating or ask your pediatrician if you can start him on some baby foods to limit his caloric intake. My nephew got really big really quick too and was in like 105% on height and weight and his doctor wasn't too worried about him as long as he was eating and not eating too much. He did suggest giving him rice cereal a couple times a day at like 3-4 months.

Wow! 20lbs is a chunker - I bet he is adorable! I would call your pediatrician just to make sure he's not concerned only because I work with so many little kiddos who are larger than normal and have a difficult time achieving their motor milestones (i.e., sitting unsupported, pulling up to stand, crawling, walking, etc) because they just can't support their body weight and/or coordinate themselves appropriately. I would have for your little dude to be behind with those crucial milestones later on. Let's not forget that if he continues to grow like this for the first year (which they do, grow like weeds until around 12 months), you will kill your back trying to lug him around all the time!

there is no way your son was born 7 lbs 8 oz and is 3 months and weighs 20 lbs! that means he has gained about 4 pounds a month! what are you feeding him?!!

No, of course not. How can your son possibly be too big at 3 months. As long as you're not feeding him steroids, be happyand enrol/him immediately in the local rugby/footie team . Could pay for your old age!

It always seems pretty overwhelming with the amount of weight babies gain within the first year, and how their bodies develop. You should take up your concerns with your pediatrician - he/she should be able to let you know how the baby is doing height/weight/brain size in comparison to the averages.Doesn't he have a well-baby checkup coming up soon?

20 lbs isnt that bad, but the weight he should actually vary in since he is 3 months its around 12-15 lbs.

Babies know when they are full....plus they thin out a bit once they become active....like crawling and walking....my son was always in the 90th percentile until he started moving and now he is in the 50th so he will thin out and as long as your dr says he is fine then dont stress!!

No, that's a normal size, maybe a little bigger than average, for a 3 month old, but don't worry too much about his weight quite yet, unless he starts to grow more horizontally than he does vertically.
