Shania sang this song on her NBC special "Up Close and Personal" in November 2003 and she explained about the many young women she has known or met that had become young single mothers for various reasons. It's a difficult place to be. Shania did mention how her mother became a mother fairly early. She wrote this song for all those girls.

It's sort of like a pro life anthem. No matter the circumstance, no one will tell you you are wrong whether you made a mistake or not, you're holding on and are not going to let her (baby) go. Struggle brings joy in the final outcome.

Just what it says. No, she never had a baby that I've ever heard of, but the song is about a 15 year old who had a baby all on her own, no one helped her, but she refused to give it up and she struggled through, but didn't regret it...hence the line.."No one can tell me I'm wrong, I ain't going down."

sometimes singers sing songs about experiences they have never had 1st hand. so it really is about having a baby as a teenager, she just never did that herself.

Might be comparing it to her experience of her parents dying when she was young and she had to raise her siblings.
