I realize they don't have brains. However, I would imagine that being crammed into an over crowded tank must somehow tick them off.

Lobsters worry about food, territory and love.

Thats it.

They can do all this in the tank.

I've worked with captive lobsters (in a breeding programme) and nature has equipped them with simple instincts that nevertheless enable them to survive.
1. If something moves and is smaller than you, eat it.
2. If something is moving and bigger than you, run away.
3. If something is the same size as you and smells male, fight it.
4. If something is the same size as you and smells female, have sex with it.
5. If nothing is moving, don't move.

That's lobster live in a nutshell. Boredom doesn't come into it.

Not if they've got a deck of cards!

Actually it does not bore them, it does, however, create stress on the animal which often results in some lobsters dying before they're sold/eaten.

First, lobsters do have brains.

However, they are much more simplistic than human brains. Boredom might a concept out of reach for the average lobster.

Ever wonder why they put rubber bands around their claws? As for the being bored part maybe we should put some activities in the tank for them, like as a last meal since they're going to become a meal soon anyway. I'm thinking chinese checkers, mancala, or maybe Monopoly!!
