I have 3 adults and 4 baby rabbits in my backyard. The babies are about 3 months old and were in a large cage together. A week ago, one turned up dead. I thought it had eaten something bad and was glad that the others looked fine. The next day one more showed signs of sickness. It had diarrhea really bad (like excreeting wet rabbit food) and hardly moved when I first found it. A few hours in the house and it looked better, but died later that evening after messing itself again. I have been regularly checking the others and all seemed well, but 2 days ago another was dead in the cage. I have been feeding all my rabbits the same food. I have not been giving them strange treats. I am afraid they will all die off of this mysterious illeness if I don't figure out where it's coming from or how to prevent it. I don't want to wait for another one to turn up ill so I can take it to the vet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I read in a book that baby rabbit should be kept in the house to a certain age plus there in a cage they may need to come in the house and let out the cage fore a while. Rabbit's can get sick from being out side eating weird things or from bugs that may carry something. If this dosent work call or tha them to the vet good luck.

First, it would be a good idea to separate the rabbits into separate cages. Having them together in one cage could be part of the cause.

Secondly, do you have them running around on the grass? If they are eating the grass that could be causing the diahrrea.

Third, you might want to treat them for coccidiosis with liquid amprolium. Coccidiosis can be associated with diahrrea, especially in young rabbits.

From your description it sounds like Mucoid Enteritis also known as mucoid enteropathy. This is a serious situation that needs a vets intervention.

www.brightsidewoolies.com - go to the articles and click on wasters and faders..

also, baby bunnies should be given steam-rolled oats and timothy hay, to help with stress. also try worming them, and separating the babies may help as well
