I need to know the history of u.s coins...the composition.
what is the history of the composition on nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar... (i already have penny). Thanks to anyone that collects coins or just happens to know....i tried google, but it didn't come up with alot of info.

Thanks!! i appreciate any info you can give me about composition of coins! (like what they are made up of...the types of metals in past times! thanks!)

Kenny missed the quarter dollars but they are the same as the half dollars. The 20 cent coin 1875-1878 was .900 silver .100 copper. The silver 3 cent coin 1851 - 1873 was .750 silver .250 copper. The nickel 3 cent coin1865-1889 was .750 copper .250 nickel. Also besides the small cents there were half cents and large cents. You must also take in consideration that at times the weights of coins changed, they were reduced for a period of time.
