Guys aren't perfect.
Try to determine whether or not your boyfriend's faults are because he is human, or because he is a jerk who doesn't care about you.
I notice that some women will forgive a cheater, a drunk, a drug addict, an abuser, over and over again. You don't forgive that kind of nonsense. Find a new man.
Other women will get enraged if a man says something unflattering but doesnt mean to hurt your feelings. Or honestly forgets a birthday. Sometimes that's part of being human, and it doesn't mean you have a bad man. It's ok to feel upset, but not ok to expect your man to be perfect, nor is it ok to hold a grudge.
If you cannot let go of a grudge, it is time to find a new man.
If he does something you cannot immediately forgive, then perhaps there is something wrong with one of you. Determine if it is him or you. If it is you, try to change or seek help. If it is him, find a new "him".
But don't become hostile towards one another.
Never ever become hostile. Why would you become hostile? If you catch them cheating, dump them. If they lie to you repeatedly, you will have to stop forgiving them eventually.
But never hold a grudge, never go to bed angry, and never yell at each other.

Never have i known what love you have brought me. How tenderness and kindness have changed a life of misery strife hardship and chaos. With simple words expressed lovingly you saved a life. You are not that false ego-IE-body, IE race, color, nationality, gender, mind, intellect, job, etc. You are eternal spirit soul, Part and parcel of the Supreme Soul,(Creator) also known as (Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc) read the Bhagavad Gita as it is and you will know who you really are behind that big ego of yours. It really will make your false ego go away once you know who you really are.That is what I would say. I would tell them they can read it on line at asitis.com because their ego is so big that they wouldn't take the time to go and buy the book.

Don't ever tell anyone you love them just to have sex with them. (Told this to my boys along with, if I ever hear of you doing this I'm going to be cutting "it" off. When they laughed at me I said, "you have to sleep sometime." They know their mom and this put the fear of God in them.)
