GW asked this question in Cleveland OH. He was defending his puppet generals and his surge. Should we really care what these people think?

Iran is going to laugh and point at how the US is weak and cannot even follow through with its own decisions. Just like they've laughed and attacked every other US policy action.

Al Qaeda is going to hate us just as much if we pulled out as they would if we stayed. Our presence there has nothing to do with Al Qaeda and has no effect on any terrorist actions for any of the other terrorist groups around the world.

In other words, the only thing that changes if we leave is that fewer American troops die in the middle of someone else's civil war.

We already lost this war. The mistake was going in in the first place. We've already made Iran and Iraq realize that we are a vulnerable country. In starting this war we've sparked anger and resentment across the world, and have effectively aided the cause of the very terrorist this war was supposed to stop.

By leaving the country we allow a civil war to break out, one which cannot at this point be prevented. By staying we prolong the inevitable civil war and make our situation worse by the day.

What we need to do is start listening to each other, as a country. Sane people are (rightfully) outraged at everything this adminstration has done to hurt not just our country, but the whole world. it will takes decades for us to undo the damage.

The anger that we feel unfortunately, makes it very hard for us to communicate to the other side. We need to care what they think, and engage them not just with passion, not just with reason, but with a healthy blend of both and an eye towards peace in the world. We need to be able to stand up to them without being consumed with rage. We have to not automatically jump the gun and make assumptions (ie all Republicans are liars.) We have to do our best to understand the world, forgive each other, and move away from hatred towards progress.

We would not be in this mess today if Clinton would have done his DAMN job while in the White House! There would not have been a 9/11 if Bill Clinton wouldn't have made a threats to Saddam. Feb.17,1998 Bill Clinton told Saddam "If Saddam rejects peace then we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the treat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program.".... Clinton should never have made any treats and then does nothing...... Also America was hit many times by terrorist when Clinton was in office, and kept it low key......Ossama bin Laden called America a (paper tiger), and call Bill Clinton weak, for not fighting back when America was HIT!! The terrorist thought since Bill Clinton was weak, after President bush taken office they thought Bush was going to be as weak as Bill Clinton was. But President Bush proved to them that he was not going to allow this evil to attack America like they did on 9/11...Democrats are weak on defense, against the US military, and want to retreat from the world. Every political move they make proves this conclusion correct.

What they think now, quite rightly, is that we are in a conflict for which the army was initially completely unprepared for, with Iran quite naturally concerned for the situation across its border, and quite happy that we have eliminated one of its chief regional rivals by overthrowing Saddam Hussein and dismantling Iraq.

For Al Qaeda, the increased friction between the United States and the Muslim world through continued operations in Iraq is a godsend for their recruitment purposes, and a destabilized Iraq with porous borders and raging sectarian conflict suits their growth quite nicely.

No you should not think about it at all.Why letting your people die in a place which does not belong to you and was actualy a separate sovereign country..Iran would just think that they are saved in that way and US would not attack them anymore..Alqaeda is a fanatic group of terrorists..and why should you care about them??
try to save your own people dying for wrong reasons and for negative politics..! don't know exactly about Iran and Alqaeda but i am sure atleast those parents would get relax whose kids are serving in Iraq and always at stake to get hit by some bullet of by some suicidal attack !

They are going to think the US is invading Iran when the bombs start falling over Tehran. We are in the process of sending another aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf, there are 140,000 kurdish troops lining up at Iraq's nothern border. The US is getting ready to light their world up. He forgot to mention all that I guess.

Well, from what i have read, we aren't going to completely withdraw all of our troops. We are still going to have enough there to continue training the Iraqi military and to run operations against Al Qaida. But I'm sure they know they are getting closer to victory. They knew this would happen when Democrats took over congress. These people have been fighting for hundreds of years, they are used to war and violence, they live for it. Americans don't have the balls to stick it through. They know this.

I agree with coragryph. Our prescence there has nothing to do with terorist operations, and is not stopping them from doing anything against us or our allies. so, yes, the only thing that will really change is american troops not dying in another countr'ys civil war.

puckheaded, you are, quite frankly, a "misinformed man"

They will take over the whole world. They will have nuclear bombs in suit cases at every train station, airport, and shopping mall. I would suggest we should all buy duct tape, plenty of water and can goods, flashlights and the like. You will have to remain scared, but go out and live. Enjoy life. Consume. Remember, vote Republican or the terrorist that lives next door will blow up a dirty bomb in the place you cherish the most. Than they may turn you gay.

That they lost their best terrorist recruiting tool.

They will have plenty to point at still, but we would for the first time be doing what it takes to win the hearts and minds that we are losing every day we are there..
