I was at a PTA meeting and one mother was saying how she wouldn't let her daughter paint her nails red, but pink or purple was okay. She's the mom of a 3rd grader.
Is there some rule for young girls and red nail polish? Did I not get the email?

I'm 12, and no my mom wount let me paint my nails red, but more lighter and younger colours, Its because its more of a grown women kind of thing, Plus when i see my friends wearing Deep red NailPolish, it dosent look right with our age. But dont worry, Only some people are like that.

I personally think it's a silly rule. I just remember my mom saying that to me.. I guess that red is just sophisticated and bright, and some mothers don't approve? It's silly really. I guess it's just a mother's opinion. My mom always told me that red nail polish was for older kids, but since fifth grade I've been wearing it.

Red Nail Polish is sorta bold and adult like,so little kids wouldnt be excpected to wear it but pinks and purples are young and fun but Red is bold and people used to think that kids shouldnt wear bold colors but i dont think anybody thinks about that rule anymore.

My mother wouldn't let me wear red nail polish til I was over 16. Said it was a sluts color.

I know a lot of religious people who do not wear red, but do wear pink and purple. They say that red "screams for attention", and I don't know why, but pink and purple is okay to them (not bright pink, though).

No theres not. Her Mom is probably some kind of freak, or she might think red is "trashy", but It's not because in my opinion, red would look a lot better than purple.

well you know other moms have different rule my mom would let me paint my nails any color i wanted to so you can do what ever you want to do you are your own person!

I wear red nail polish and it's okay. It doesn't look slutty or hookerish unless the person wearing it has slutty clothes on.

LOL I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe she thinks red is too grown up?? I must have missed that email also. I let my daughter do whatever color she wants...always have. You have to choose your battles & that one ain't worth it to me : )

Yeah I've heard that pretty often. I don't know why, but my guess is that is represents sexiness, something that young girls shouldn't potray. Red is a sexy color, after all.
