Language Arts / Reading. Why? Simple... it is the root to accessing knowledge. Adequate reading ability and a well rounded vocabulary coupled with literary knowledge will open the doors to all other disciplines.

Math, because there is always a correct answer. Other subjects like English, History, or Social Studies are subjective, so if you write a paper and the teacher doesn't like how you wrote it, or does not agree with your point of view, you can get a bad grade.
Math is honest and true.
It's the basis for Science too. If you understand math, science is a lot easier. If you can't do the math, then science is harder.

One's self. If you don't know yourself, how can anyone else? It goes farther than that. Be honest with yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Do you accept them, or do you want to change? After that, ethics: what's acceptable to others? How do you determine if you're doing the right thing? Value learning. Some people learn by listening, some by seeing, some by doing. Try all three.

English, because without it you wouldn't be able to learn or understand any other subjects.

They're all "important" because you're required to pass them to graduate.
But...I'd say take an auto shop class. You'll save tons of money later on.
