My brother went to district court yesterday, but I haven't heard what happened. Is there a way to find out what the judgement was without paying a fee?
It is a Washington State Case.

As a general rule of thumb, this is public information. Worst case scenario, you may have to pay a buck or two for a copy of the judgement sheet in the file. If you get a very nice clerk, he or she may just give you the information. You can also ask what the docket sheet says or get a copy of that. Most places charge about a buck a page, so you shouldn't be out any more than 5 bucks if worse comes to worse. Hope this helps!

p.s. - have the case number handy, or at least your brother's name and dob.

YOU CAN CALL THE CLERK'S OFFICE OF THE COURT WHERE HIS PROCEEDINGS WERE HELD AND ASK FOR THE INFORMATION. IF THEY WON'T REVEAL THE INFO ON THE PHONE, YOU MAY DO AS DESCRIBED BELOW.

YOU CAN CALL AND REQUEST A COPY OF THESE RECORDS. I WORKED FOR A CLERK'S OFFICE OF A COURT FOR 3 YEARS. COPY REQUESTS BY LETTER OR PHONE WERE MOST COMMON. YOU JUST CALL AND REQUEST IT AS I DISCUSSED IN MY ORIGINAL ANSWER OR YOU WRITE A LETTER WITH THE REQUEST, THEY WRITE YOU BACK WITH A TOTAL AMOUNT (FEW BUCKS), YOU SEND THE CK OR MONEY ORDER, THEY MAKE THE COPIES AND MAIL THEM OUT. SIMPLE AS THAT.

You go to the courthouse and ask to see the file. It is an open record. They must let you see it.
