Does anyone have a list or link that shows a bunch of the codes and what symbol you get?

Hmmmm..... odd. I don't believe there is a difference from right or left alt (or shift or ctrl). It's just "ALT", and you can't actually set it to be the right or left key. So it really shouldn't matter which one you press. Why that's not happening for you, I don't know. It could be a preferences thing (try resetting them for PS), or something else causing the conflict, like a plug in, update, etc... It could even be your keyboard (maybe even a third-party program for your keyboard?). It could be a virus too, or any number of things. If resetting your preferences doesn't work, try reinstalling PS. Also, make sure your drivers and such are up-to-date (Photoshop, video, OS, and keyboard even).

Heres a cheat sheet for what is called ASCII codes. You just hold down the alt key and type in the 3 digit code.

in the old days we called those ascii codes.
here is a website to find them, scroll to the bottom of the website page to find the ones you are lokking for, use your ALT key plus the number indicated...be sure to use the numeric keypad when doing this.
