everyone develops at different stages. my best friend started her period when she was 9, and my sister started when she was 12. some girls get their periods very early, but still aren't sexually mature enough to have a baby. she is completely normal =).

I also had my period at a very young age. it runs in families, so be sure to ask around in your family. It can be genetic, with hormonal unbalances. If your niece is over weight, that can also trigger an early period. If this is not the case, it could be an issue, but I would not worry about it.

Yes, it is normal. There is no starting age for a period. I started at 14, my daughter at 10 and her best friend at 9.

Girls in industrialized nowadays tend to get periods at a much younger age than their predecessors because of all the contaminants and toxins that are in our lives--- many of them contain hormones or stuff that acts like hormones. If you'd like to know more visit ewg.org
This stuff is found in air, water, food, makeup, skincare products... babies in the womb are most susceptible and children as well.

Yes it is within the normal range.
My mother got hers at 9 and I got mine at 14.
Menarch, or the beginning of menstruating is getting earlier and earlier.

it is young. i know several girls which started at the same age and they usually had hormonal imbalances. has she seen the doctor about this? it may just run in the family. its probably a good idea to get it checked out, but nothing to worry about.
