Oh richk_55124! That is like saying which weighs more an inch of iron or an inch of glass. They are not the same weight, Why? because they are different units of measurement, just as is a gallon. Gallons measure volume, while inches measure length, and pounds or ounces measure weight. Craig S, who some think is correct is actually wrong! Don't beleive me. . . . . . Take an empty milk carton and fill it with sand. . . . . . You now have a gallon of sand. And to answer the question a gallon of sand should weigh more than the same volume of water due to its density. The more dense an object is the more it weighs. Using these calculations you can see why Terrell Owens weighs as much as he does!!! LOL!!! Had to rag on that guy a little, n e ways hope this clears up any confusion.

No no no... a gallon of anything represents volume. Weight doesn't factor.
-
Sand is more dense and heavier then water so your answer is Sand.

Now, what's heavier on the Moon... a feather or a hammer? Who's buried in Grants tomb? Ever get someone a bucket of steam?

Just mess'n with you. :)

A gallon of water weighs about 8lbs. I would think sand is heavier.

You can't have a gallon of sand - the word "gallon" is used only for liquid measures.
