Twist it!
No, don't. I was only kidding.
The gauge is a "pop in" unit.
I don't have my service manual in my back pocket, so here's a guess.
Unbolt rear of gas tank and lift slightly for access.
Place a block of wood under the tank to hold it up.
The sender wire comes down through a small tube in the tank. Follow the wire and disconnect it.
Carefully lift the fuel gauge. Don't twist, but pry up instead. You may want to work your way around it as you go.
Installation would be the reverse.

A cold chisel and a lump hammer. Basically the same tools you use for maintenance on a sewage pump.

Disconnect the fuel pipe.
Open the stop tap.
Throw match.
Watch the whole heap of crap go into orbit.
That should do it!

Just let it idle for a bit. It'll fall off eventually but so will everything else.
